Just before Christmas I had a seasonal lunch at Muriel’s Kitchen, Soho.
Not only do they have a gorgeous website, but also a beautifully decorated restaurant with personalised crockery. The menus were quite nice too, with a touching little story on the inside sleeve telling the origins of Muriel’s Kitchen.
I ordered the ‘turkey roll with bacon & chestnut stuffing, served with a giant Yorkshire pudding, gravy & cranberry sauce or bread sauce.’ I won’t lie, it wasn’t amazing. It was quite school dinners-y. I have to have my food freshly hot and nothing I had was. I’m sure the gravy was prepared earlier into little pots and then reheated as mine came lumpy with cold film on the lukewarm goo. I sent it back and was then sent a piping hot mini jug. My Yorkshire pudding was also not giant.
It’s a little bit of a shame that the food wasn’t as spectacular as the decor or window display.
It wasn’t baaaad so maybe I caught them on an odd day. They have two other restaurants in London which could be visited when the new menu arrives in January.
It's interesting to see a place change their menu on a monthly basis. It's always a risk doing that, especially because it'll be hard to know what their signature dish is? The cakes looked amazing !
I know what you mean. I would rather seasonal specials on a fixed menu but if you're not too fussy an eater it's okay to be surprised each time I guess!
