Duck & Waffle, Bishopsgate London

The most beautiful lunch of my life at Duck & Waffle with my top foodie Selina. I was in such a rush to get there on time that I completely forgot my camera so again these are iPhone pictures (not too bad this time as it was really light in there). On the 40th floor of Heron Tower, Duck & Waffle is the highest restaurant in the UK. Whizzing up in the lift made my ears pop but the views were amazing.

I ordered the ‘Duck and Waffle’, of course.

I was so excited to eat it that I when I was trying to cut through the pile of food and ended up knocking the maple syrup onto my leg. The staff were really attentive and rushed to me with a hot towel to get me out of my sticky mess and replaced my syrup. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!  The syrup seemed to not be much but was the perfect amount. The duck confit was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and piping hot inside. The waffle was exactly sweet enough for the dish and the duck egg was not runny (yay).

Selina ordered the Foie gras crème brûlée. She described it as, “amazing”.

Foie gras crème brûlée
On to the most important choice of the day; dessert. I had never experienced something so beautiful.

Torrejas, maple caramel apples with cinnamon ice cream

I had to quickly google ‘torrejas’, which I found out is French toast but this was not just any French toast. This was the most amazing, soft, hot, sweet, glazed brioche…. I mean just look at that presentation. This may have just become my most enjoyed dessert ever. The cinnamon ice cream was the perfect accompaniment, which melted into the syrup with apples. It was extremely sweet but I loved it. I would 100% order this again… and again and again and again.

I recommend everyone to go! You do need to book a table in advance (three weeks by the look of things at the moment) and weekends are fully booked for the next 2/3 months. Alcoholic drinks will push the bill up a fair bit, as Selina discovered, but I stuck with water. Pick a date, make some spare time, take all your spare money and go!
