Hello! I’ve not blogged at all in April and I have absolutely no idea why. I have, of course, been eating and making and photographing so I thought I’d just do an April round up post of a few of the things I’ve been up to this month.
On Friday 11th April I visited The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating and Baking Show at ExCeL, London. It was amazing! I went with one of my friends and we spent the whole time wandering around the competition entry tables in awe at the detail and size of some of the pieces people had submitted. Some were damaged in transit which was unfortunate, but most were in pristine condition with intricate designs. You can view all the pictures I’ve posted on my photography Facebook page – don’t forget to like it!
For my Dad’s birthday on the 19th I attempted a recipe by Emily from This Rawsome Vegan Life. My dad tries to follow a vegan diet and I’m always making cakes full of butter and egg so thought this would be nice for him.
I actually incorporated two of her recipes; the base from her raw blueberry tarts and the cashew cream from her fruit tartlets with vanilla cashew cream.
The recipe for the base was enough to base one large tart tin and two smaller tartlet tins so I needed to make one and half times the amount of cashew cream in Emily’s recipe. I topped the large tart with blueberries, strawberries and kiwi and the smaller ones with just blueberries. I wasn’t too keen on the flavour but my dad really enjoyed it.
For Easter Sunday I made a Key Lime Pie, Coffee and Walnut Cake and a Cherry and Almond Tart. These are all things I’ve made before as I didn’t really have any time for things to go wrong. I blogged about the Cherry and Almond Tart for my 18th birthday when I forgot to take a picture of it and guess what… I forgot to take a picture of it again. In fact I didn’t take any proper pictures over Easter which is a shame.
Last Sunday I had an evening at Maddy’s Fish Bar (which is now open to the public – yay) for a pre-opening “Thank you funders” meal with two of my friends, Julianne who you would have seen in my Carluccio’s post, and Megan. We had a set menu of 6 courses, the first of those being oysters.

Neither Megan or I had ever had oysters before so decided to approach them like shots… down in one. I considered chewing it but once I actually had it in my mouth I knew it was getting swallowed whole. Megan decided to chew hers… for about 2 minutes, which was just hilarious. Everything was delicious and I’ll be going back soon to do a full blog post. Thank you to anyone who funded from the post I did about their fundraiser. Well done Maddy! To end the month, I have just started a short leisure cake decorating course at my local college during which I learnt to model this cutie pie.
I had to finish him at home after college so didn’t have the correct modelling tools to give him straight buttons or a neat smile but I think he was a good first attempt! The difficulty was in correctly making modelling paste but once that was ready he wasn’t too hard to model. I’ve got myself set on making an elephant now.
I’m forcing myself to get back into the swing of blogging again for May (omg can’t believe it’s nearly May already) whilst somehow managing to eat healthy and get in shape for my holidays and summer! Maybe I’ll just brainwash myself into believing butter, sugar and flour are fat and carb free…
