Jamaica, Jamaica. Home spicy home.
Home of reggae music, jerk chicken and Blue Mountain Coffee. Also home to some of the most beautiful beaches and mountains you will find in the Caribbean.
As my family heritage is from Jamaica, most of my visits are to stay with family at home in various towns around the island. Jamaica is split into 12 parishes, a little bit like boroughs here in London. The capital city, Kingston, is in the Parish of St. Andrew where the island’s primary airport is. Montego Bay is on the opposite side of the island in the second main city of Jamaica, with another international airport. I’ve only ever travelled into Montego Bay airport and have experienced many of the well known and highly advertised places on the north and west of the island.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean. The majority of the centre of the island is unreachable to tourists without a car but there’s much to explore. Most hotels listed on any of the major booking sites are all-inclusive, and some run shuttle buses to nearby tourist hotspots. There is a public bus transportation system but be prepared to be sitting practically on someone else’s lap, and perhaps with someone’s child on yours.
If you’re after a more independent stay in Jamaica your best bet is to rent a car and a villa.
Villa Turrasann is a family-run beachfront property located in Runaway Bay on the north side of the island with the ability to host up to 6 people.
If you want to ask some questions before you book you can speak directly with the owner, who may also be there to welcome you on your stay at the villa!
I love extras. Extra fries, extra time, extra anything to boost your experience and really get the maximum value for money. At Villa Turrasann the extras are what really separates your stay here from any other villa.
Regardless of your arrival time, the Villa Turrassann team will have prepared you a hot meal of your choice, just remember to email ahead if you have any dietary requirements your chef needs to know about.
You’ll then have your own personal chef on hand for the duration of your trip, who will happily accompany you to local stores and markets, teaching you about Jamaican staples and produce whilst you pick up everything you need. If you’d rather cook yourself, that’s fine too! The kitchen is fully accessible for guests.
There’s no need to fight for the best bedroom as they all have impeccable beach views. Just picture it now, you open your eyes first thing in the morning and watch a Jamaican sun rise from your bed.
And all en suite!
If you’d rather be down on the beach at sunrise, go for it. When I say Villa Turrasann is on the beach, I mean… on the beach!
Not a fan of the sand between your toes? Meet you at the pool!
Spend your days lounging in the Caribbean heat, and start your nights on the back step watching the sun go down. Does life get any better than that?
