NYC: Miss Lily’s, Soho

I’m getting my days a little muddled now trying to catch up with my NY eats in the order I enjoyed them. As you can probably tell from the various locations, Mother and I were working our way across Manhattan and beyond in no particular order. I had drawn up particular itinerary plans for the majority of the days, but many days involved us traveling up and down Manhattan, getting lost from time to time.

After shopping our way around Soho, Noho and Nolita, we were really hungry and we couldn’t find the restaurant we had planned to eat in. Mum then remembered that she had made another note from the Virgin Atlantic information video about a Jamaican restaurant called Miss Lily’s. After popping into Urban Outfitters to use their wifi (handy travel tip: most UO branches have free wifi), I was able to locate the branch that was nearest to where were: 132 W Houston St and Sullivan Street

I ordered the curry chicken roti and a portion of plantain with a fresh pineapple juice, and mum went for the classic jerk chicken with rice & peas and a carrot juice.

It was actually a good curry chicken roti. I doubt the roti are made on site but I could be wrong. The best roti I’ve had are Trinidadian with thin light layers. Mum’s comment on her meal was “generic Caribbean food” and that it “wasn’t particularly Jamaican”. I tried some and wouldn’t disagree.

The style of the restaurant is really nice with a good ambience and some sweet, sweet reggae music. There are books, CD’s and vinyl for sale in the back of the restaurant where we were sat. They also appear to run a radio show from the side of the restaurant which you can listen to from their website
